We have a tradition in our family. Each year I search for a new Christmas book for our family. I anticipate the children's enjoyment each year as Poppa opens the new book and reads it aloud to us. Even though my children are growing older, they still enjoy a good picture book. In anticipation of Christmas, we seek as many ways as possible to keep our focus on Christ. Reading good Christmas stories as well as The Christmas Story helps to keep our thoughts and minds on Christ Jesus.
I took a little time this afternoon and secluded myself in the bedroom. It's that time of year. Momma's making Christmas, so the kids know better than come in. ~smile~ I settled in and read this new book, The Sparkle Box, written by Jill Hardie and illustrated by Christine Kornacki. What a delightful book.
Mother and child are snuggled together reading a Christmas book when the child sees a silver sparkly box on the mantle. Mother tells him that it's a special gift, but they have to fill it up first. The child gazes in wonder at the box. The days pass and the family shows the love of Christ to those in need. Finally, Christmas comes. Time to open the Sparkle Box. I'm not going to tell you just what's in the box, but it points our attention to exactly where it should be- Jesus Christ.
This book is going to be a wonderful surprise for my family this Christmas, and it just may be a new Christmas tradition in the making. I highly recommend that you build your own library of Christmas favorites. The Sparkle Box would be a good addition to that library.
Take a look for yourself!
Author Bio
Author Jill Hardie and her family began placing a gift for Jesus under their Christmas tree as a way of bringing more meaning to the holiday. The first time they opened His gift, the commercialism of the season melted away and they felt a profound joy and peace. Jill hopes that The Sparkle Box will spark a new Christmas tradition, bringing light into thousands of lives.
At a very early age, Christine Kornacki developed a love for painting and bringing stories to life. After receiving a BFA in illustration from the University of Hartford, her dreams of illustrating children's books began to take shape. She spends her days painting in her studio, which adjoins a charming cafe in New Haven, Connecticut.

What a fun tradition you have with your family.
My favorite Christmas story is the true account from Luke.
This sounds like a very neat book!
I used to do the same thing about buying a book a year! One of my favorites is Annika's Secret Wish. (http://www.amazon.com/Annikas-Secret-Wish-Beverly-Lewis/dp/0764221817)
Thanks for hosting this!
Warmly,
Kate
We always buy a new Christmas book too. We wrap all of our Christmas books up & then unwrap one a day to read.
I'm not sure what my favorite is, but my youngest daughters favorite is The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. We've read it so many times! http://www.amazon.com/Gingerbread-Baby-Jan-Brett/dp/0399241663/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350513260&sr=1-1&keywords=gingerbread+baby
a favorite Christmas Book- I Believe in Santa Claus
I like to read The Legend of the Candy Cane to my kiddos.
Our tradition is to read a Christmas book together each night in December.
Hope to win
We like Annika's Secret Wish as well. This inspired me to make a pudding with an almond in it. We do different little things for the person who found an almond in their bowl.
I wasnt fast enough to get in on this review, the book sounds great, thanks for the chance to win it. :)
My favorite Christmas book is probably not a "Christmas book" but its related. The Tale of Three Trees.
We have so many favorite Christmas books!!! We enjoy reading a sweet book titled "Mortimer's Christmas Manger" written by Jane Chapman.
We also have the same traditions as mentioned above. We purchase a Christmas book every year and open it on Christmas Day. It is usually Christ-centered focused on the real reason why we celebrate Christmas. I would love to win this book for our collection! It sounds like one we use from the library - we open a green box on Christmas morning containing baby Jesus. I hope I didn't ruin the end of the book (maybe it is different). We also wrap 25 Christmas books including those from the library and our collection. We open one per day leading up to the new book. We usually read the Night Before Christmas the night before Christmas like most people. I love Christmas!
I can't find your "We're on the Fence" to vote for you. I went to their website and searched your blog - it keeps taking me to the same place but doesn't show up as a vote??? I hope you can help me with this.
Wow, this looks like a GREAT Christmas tradition!!
My girls would love this book!
My daughters really like "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss. We read it every year!

The Jesse Tree by Geraldine McCaughrean is a neat Christmas book we started using last year.
Laura,
This looks like a wonderful book....one that I'd love to add to our home library! We have books that we re-read every Christmas but I like the idea of adding a new one every year as a tradition. Very sweet!
Have a great weekend! :)

I had the same tradition with my children when they were growing up. Sounds like a great book.

I recently found your blog and love it! I think this would be a fun thing to start with my littles this year and build up a Christmas library of favorites.

I like the accounts of their Christmases from the Little House on The Prairie series.
